Terms of Use
These terms apply when you use the Parking Blues Android app (including on Android Auto and Android Automotive OS), this web page and the server behind them (together, the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
1. What the Service is
Parking Blues suggests places where on-street parking is likely to be legal in Zurich, based on public open data and on the rules for blue and white zones. The City of Zurich does not publish live occupancy for on-street spaces, so the Service cannot know whether a space is free. Time limits, fees and the position of spaces are estimates and may be outdated, incomplete or wrong.
2. You stay responsible
- Always follow posted signs, road markings, parking rules and traffic law. They override anything the Service shows.
- You are responsible for where you park, for fees, for observing time limits and for any fines or towing.
- Do not operate a phone while driving. Use the car screens only in the ways your vehicle and local law allow.
3. Acceptable use
You must not misuse the Service. In particular, you may not:
- scrape, crawl, mass-download or systematically collect data from the Service, or use it to build or feed a competing dataset or product;
- access the Service by automated means other than the official app and web page, or send requests at a rate or volume that is not plausible for a person using the app;
- run load, stress or security tests, or try to disrupt, overload or degrade the Service;
- circumvent or try to evade rate limits, blocks, access controls or other technical protections, including by rotating addresses or identities;
- send fabricated or deliberately misleading locations or other data;
- gain or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, its servers or other people's data;
- resell or redistribute the Service or its output, or use it for unlawful purposes or to harm others;
- reverse engineer the Service to extract data in bulk, except where the law or an open-source licence expressly allows it.
4. Limits, suspension and blocking
To keep the Service available for everyone, requests are rate limited. If we believe the Service is being abused, or these terms are broken, we may throttle, suspend or block access, including by IP address, device or Google account, with or without prior notice. Signing in is optional; it raises request limits, and it also means abuse can be traced to, and blocked on, your account. Repeatedly exceeding the limits can lead to automatic, escalating blocks of an account. We may also remove or change features, limits or the Service as a whole at any time. If you think you were blocked by mistake, write to paul@lammertsma.dev.
If you sign in, you are responsible for activity under your account and must not share it or use it to hide abuse. You can delete your account at any time (see the privacy policy).
5. Availability and no warranty
Parking Blues is a free service provided "as is" and "as available". There is no guarantee that it will be accurate, uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will suit your purpose.
6. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from use of the Service or from relying on its information, including parking fines, fees, towing, lost time or indirect loss. Liability for intent or gross negligence, for injury to life or health, and any liability that cannot be excluded under mandatory law, remains unaffected.
7. Data and content
The Service contains data from the City of Zurich's open data portal and map data from OpenStreetMap contributors, displayed on maps provided by CARTO. Those sources remain subject to their own terms and licences. Parking Blues is an independent project and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the City of Zurich. The app, its design and its name belong to Paul Lammertsma, apart from third-party components, which are governed by their own licences.
8. Privacy
How we handle data is described in the privacy policy.
9. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms, for example when the Service changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms. Material changes will be announced in the app or its store listing beforehand.
10. Governing law and jurisdiction
Swiss law applies, excluding its conflict-of-law rules. The competent courts are those in Switzerland at the provider's domicile, unless mandatory law, such as consumer protection rules, provides for a different place of jurisdiction.
